First, Bronco is a weird guy. I can all but guarantee I would not be good friends with him if he were in my ward or whatever. That isn't a knock on him, he just is unusual (mostly for the better for him). I enjoy talking sports and watching them. I don't believe he does.
I fully expect that Bronco took the UNM job planning on staying there for awhile. But let's remember that things changed in the year he was there. First off his boss changed. That is significant. We have all had that happen and who your boss is can be a huge deal in your job enjoyment.
But secondly, and this is something Bronco was unhappy with at BYU (although a different situation) is that conference affiliation changed. UNM decided not to join the PAC. Utah State decided to join the PAC. On the surface, the PAC is significantly better than the MWC (what it will become) and offers access to the playoffs (similar to the MWC now). But even beneath the surface it tells Bronco that one organization is serious about winning and the other wants to win but isn't willing to pay what it takes to do that.
Which brings me to: Yes, I think Bronco and all of his staff will make more at Utah St. Is that the primary reason he left UNM for Utah St? I mean none of us knows for sure, but based on everything we know about him it seems highly doubtful. Bronco would have made more in staying one more year at Virginia than he will in 3 years at Utah St. Bronco is also a wealthy man. Now if he posed the question to his assistants they may have responded differently. $250,000 vs $150,000 could have a real impact in their lives.
Some of you hate Bronco for different reasons (don't like being called Pharisees for one) and I understand you will use this moment to rip on him. That is your right. I'm just not sure you have all of the facts straight.
