I think you're reading too much into it. Though I'd take the endzone fade out of the playbook entirely.
Having watched the game several times, and looked at the red zone opportunities carefully, I agree with him that it was just a failure to execute.
One thing I'd change if I were him would be to clip Jake's wings in the red zone, or at least in close. His decision-making has improved drastically, but he's not ready to fly solo 5-10 yards from the end zone.
