In Dallas to their first live football game. They somewhat understood the rules, but I was able to give them a crash course on the game and what was going on prior to the start of the BYU - Baylor game in Waco.
We started down there as a group of 8 of us from our company (including one of us who is a Ute fan, but he just wore a navy top…he is a good guy and often roots for BYU. I’ve been with him to a couple of BYU/Utah games and everytime, BYU wins). We stopped at the Hillsboro Buc ees to grab some snacks and to revel in the beauty that is the US of A.
Once down in Waco, it was easy to park and an easy walk over to the stadium. I was surprised that there was little fan interaction going on. Everyone kind of kept to themselves. About 45 min before the game, it appeared it was going to be a 65-35% BYU crowd. It just didn’t look like many Baylor fans were showing up. At kickoff, it balanced out more, for sure with probably 65-35% Baylor fans, but BYU fans certainly showed up.
That first half might be one of my most fun/entertaining/amazing halfs of BYU football I’ve enjoyed. Our whole crew got into it. The second half seemed like we changed the play calling although it also seemed to be impacted by all of the ridiculous drops etc. After the game, there was zero fan interaction with us as we were leaving. No problems but no chatting. I can somewhat understand as I would be a little grumpy if my team was 2-3.
The defense finally showed up when it mattered most, and we walked away still undefeated. We dropped 4 of our crew off at their hotel back near DFW and 4 of us flew back to SLC last night. It was a great day at a great stadium. Great location to enjoy a game.
We got this picture after the game to commemorate the experience.
