Reminder that sports are just a business.

This one is rough because they have one of the last “blue collar” fan bases in America, who have been priced out of everything else it seems in favor of luxury boxes.

If you go to the game it is full of energy, fans playing drums they bought and their own cheering sections.

With that being said (haha), this move is a long time coming. Oakland has basically been in decline since the Athletics moved there in the 60s. The raiders and warriors also jumped ship.

Their stadium situation was very poor and had been critical since the 90s.


Local politics made it impossible to move anywhere else in the bay and the owner was too greedy to just knock down the coliseum and rebuild there (and frankly I can see it maybe not being the greatest investment either).

Sacramento and Las Vegas, their two next destinations, are full of unanswered questions so they aren’t out of the woodwork yet.

As BYU Cougar fans, no matter how depressed you might be at least they won’t ever move the team.
