I understand the point, not missing it at all. The responses are to the example
you provided, which demonstrate unrealistic expectations in terms of what is typically affordable for someone making $150K a year, today or in almost any era (with income adjusted for inflation).

My income is significantly higher than this, and has been for a while, and I have raised 5 kids, and I have never owned a home with a 3-car garage. Only one of the 4 homes I have owned was over 3,000 square feet. My current home is 2,750 sq. ft. with a 2-car garage.

I have 3 kids in their 20s, plus one in college, and the oldest just bought his first home last year (a townhouse, no yard, under 2,000 sq. ft), so I am acutely aware of the challenges for young people trying to buy their first home today. But the first hurdle is to have realistic expectations in terms of what is affordable.
