I think of many of my best memories - most are at older relatives homes with a lot of space. Creates a gathering place.
On the other hand, those with small homes are always looking for a venue for family gatherings.
If you have the means, the extra space is totally worth it IMO. Why do you work? What's your money for? Family is #1.
