That rabbi was on campus last month for an interfaith panel
with an imam, priest and evangelical. All the panelists talked about how we pray more fervently in moments of need or desperation. The rabbi then shared that he and his wife were in Israel when Hamas attacked, and what it was like to pray for help as they drove to the airport to find a flight home. It was an interesting moment because it felt like the imam and rabbi could relate to each other's experience with prayer even though their perspectives on the surrounding events probably were very different.
