I had an anesthesia student with me for the day.
I was trying to let her do everything by herself. There was a moment during the induction sequence where the breathing circuit was pumping Anesthesia gas out into the room pretty good.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the circulator nurse was pretty large around the abdomen. I asked her if she wanted to leave the room for a few minutes (something you would do if anyone is pregnant in the room)
she asked why?
“aren’t you pregnant?” I said
“No”. She replied
I died. Most awkward case I’ve ever done, and lots of apologies via text later that day.
After that stroke/brain fart/moment of complete stupidity, I have never assumed a woman is pregnant since. (I do believe I was pretty sleep deprived that day).
