SDSU's guards were more athletic.
Bottom line. They prevented BYU's key smalls from getting comfortable looks. They prevented any kind of flow or rhythm. Now and then, after working hard, a Cougar shooter would have a look, but there was never a sequence where Aztec defense broke down and allowed, say, three quality squared-up opportunities.

The trio of Barcello, Knell, and Johnson do not have much escapability against guards like this. AB has the knack of making circus shots and that is his edge. He had only a handful of wide open looks, but at least two were the result of him having to adjust off the dribble rather than catch-and-shoot. They were always close to him.

TeJ has some escapability, but not where it results in easy lay-ins. He had a half dozen plays where he ...off balance and driving into traffic ... flipped up things at the glass after being somewhat out-of-control.

That being said, it will not be the situation in most games this year. SDSU had the bodies and the mentality, plus the scouting, to make things difficult. Hat tip to them.
