I took lessons for a couple of years as a kid, but quit. As a missionary, I had a companion that taught me music theory, chord-building, etc, and I started learning how to play from the sheet music chords. Still can't read music well enough to sight-read, but I can "learn" a song slowly from sheet music and memorize it. That's good enough for me.
