I've had a lot more success learning as an adult than I did as a child. Mostly
because I had a vision for what I wanted to learn and was a lot more motivated. Sounds like you're approaching it with that mindset, so you should be fine.

I also found it easier to read music and make sense of music theory as an adult. I took lessons for two years starting at 8 and didn't feel like I had regressed too much. Even if I had, I had definitely improved my abilities within just a few weeks from starting again.
