I think the poster is correct where you need to view it as a gift
But if you want to build self respect and self reliance, a gift isn’t always the best route.
My parents have given us money in time of need and have also lent to us too. I felt good about paying them back, but they probably didn’t expect it back and definitely didn’t need it back.
