Given the apparent displeasure with how Utah is handling the CBB case, I'm curious to hear what BYU fans would suggest as the appropriate punishment given the fact pattern of the crime. I'm not interested in comparisons between how lenient or strict the two schools have been in past situations, but just what you think should be done, given what we know. Let me re-hash.
On July 27, CBB was charged with misdemeanor mischief and vandalism. Damages caused by his actions per the tribune article were estimated to be $600. Per the article it sounds like he was cooperative with police once arrested and confessed to his actions.
He has since appeared in court twice, pleaded guilty, and agreed to pay a fine of $1,600. Society has deemed this sufficient and the incident will be removed from his record assuming he pays the fine and has no other incidents for the next 12 months.
He has no past record of criminal and/or violations of team rules that we know of.
Given that information, considering his legal issues are now behind him, what would you deem an appropriate punishment? Also, interested to hear if you feel like what you suggest would be consistent with how you would expect other public universities to handle the situation.
I'm not interested in an evaluation of utah's punishment, just what you think is appropriate and why?
