I would like a comparison of RM NFL players from all schools as a proportion of all RM players on their teams. Then the same for non-RM players. That would help us identify if a problem exists, what the problem is, and where to fix it.
If BYU just has more RMs on the team compared to others, and we're putting RM players into the NFL at an acceptable rate compared to other schools, then it may just be a symptom of the composition of BYU athletics. That's something I think we shouldn't be up in arms about. Maybe we could bring that number up slightly by bringing in more non-LDS players, I suppose, but it can't be taken to an extreme.
If BYU isn't putting its non-RM players into the NFL, then we can identify the magnitude of players we should be sending and hence identify the true magnitude of the discrepancy between BYU and other schools.
I think BYU needs to do better at sending players to the NFL, but I think the problem is vastly overstated because people conflate the inherent problem with player age with lack of talent development.
