After Concussion Riley Plays Out of his Mind; BYU stomps Hawaii
Another perfect autumn day in Provo made even better by the fact that BYU didnt drop out of the top-25 after their loss. Obviously losing at BSU is a respectable loss, especially when youre down your starting QB. Norm Chow is welcomed to a rouse of applause by the BYU faithful. His Hawaii squad is out for revenge but has a tough time exacting it. The Warriors do the Haka out on the Y during pre-game which riles up the team. Brandon Ogletree looks like he might actually kill someone and is going bananas. Some thought BYU might not be up for this game after the drama of the Utah game and the heartbreak of the BSU game. It appears now that they are.
The good news is Riley is officially back and is having no side effects from his concussion. His acrobatics in the UH game last year were his breakout party and he appears equally as sharp this afternoon. BYU defers and forces a three and out to start the game. JD returns the punt into Hawaii territory and after a Hine run and a Riley scramble he nails Hoffman on a play-action roll out on 3rd and 2 for a 39 yard TD pass and just like that BYU is up 7-0.
Hawaii actually answers on the next drive but that is the last time they see the endzone. TD passes to Wilson, Thompson, Mathews and JD make this a career day for Riley. He sits the entire 4th quarter and we get our first glimpse of Taysom Hill, the Stanford transfer. He goes 1-3 for 9 yards and David Foote, who was stopped a few yards shy last year, finally gets into the endzone on a long scamper.
BYU wins handily, 42-10.
Player of Game: Nelson 25/32, 334 yards, 5 TDs 1 INT, 4 rushes for 50 yards.
