Once they have them in order, there's specific rules they HAVE to follow and other "rules" they are suggested to follow if it's at all possible.
They will then take #1 and place it in a bracket using the rules above. Then #2, then #3, all the way down the list.
The main ones and the most important rules that give an indication to where BYU will play are:
1- give preference to the location closest to the school.
Pretty much all Big12 teams would be closest to Denver. That wouldn't matter, except Rule #2:
2 - Avoid conference rematches for as long as possible, especially in the first 2 rounds.
So, second round matchups would be #4 vs 5, and #3 vs 6.
Houston being in Denver doesn't matter because BYU wouldn't match up with Houston unless we're an 8/9.
If TT, ISU are both 3s, one of them will be in Denver before BYU gets placed and they won't match us up with conference mates if we're a 6. Same scenario with AZ if they're a 4 and BYU a 5.
