Currently, BYU sits at 50. Not a horrible ranking, not a great ranking, pretty average imo. If BYU goes the rest of the way winning all Quad 2 and higher games, and losing all Quad 1 games BYU will be 10-10 in league play, with no Quad 1 games won (as NET currently sit, I understand things change and one could be bumped into Quad 1)
This means that we would need to win every road game of Quad 2s from here on out (we'd also lose all Quad 1s at home). 10-10 last year in the Big 12 would get us into the dance. This year? It may not. Three of those wins would be Quad 3 wins. No Quad 1 wins and on the bubble would be tough to overcome to get into the tournament, imo. I can't imagine us getting 10-10 but say we do, whether it's this way or winning one or two Quad 1 games and losing some Quad 2s (and hopefully not Quad 3s), that would help our situation as I see it, but not much, imo.
This is how I see it. I have no evidence that we can beat a team better than ASU (NET 51) at home, NC State (NET 114) at a neutral site, and no road wins and the closest game being Providence (NET 82) by 19 points.
Do I have hope for this team? Yes. Do they need to fix things? Yes. Am I a coach? No. Does KY say they need to fix things? Yes. Will they fix things? I hope so. I will not resign my hopes for this team to the NIT or worse just because we have NBA talent this year and in future years and everyone is trying to tread around figuring what they're role is. Roles should have been assigned or taken by now, imo. KY knows this, and every time I hear him talk he wants the leadership of the team to be taken over by someone, but it just feels like the players don't want to ostracize one another by taking a leadership role. Again, just what I see when watching. Last year, I felt like they still didn't have a player who they'd give the ball to and say go score (maybe Fouss sometimes), but the team gelled so well together it seemed like they didn't need it most of the time, and when they needed it, they lost.
I hope to win this weekend, and THEN I hope for a win next Tuesday. etc until it's time for the tournament. I hope for a tournament bid, then I hope for a win in the first game then a win in the second game.
All this to say, I don't know what I'm talking about and hope to see some more wins this season, and I'm super excited for this team and BYU basketball in the future. 🙂
