Last night, and the season so far, boil down to 3 things:
1) Our best, most talented, and most important player (Demin) can't shoot. Period. He is a terrible shooter. He hasn't made a shot outside of point blank range in weeks. When you have Keba/Fouss on the floor with Demin, that means only 3 of the people on the floor can shoot reliably. And with Mag getting more minutes (which he's earned), you only have 2 guys on the floor who shoot over 30% from 3. That simply will not work in basketball in 2025.

2) 3 Point Shooting - When you shoot 20% from 3 you are going to lose every basketball game in the modern era. Always. (It's probably that simple).

3) Movement - Because of the differences in spacing, skill level, and freedom of movement from college to pro, I do think KY will need to modify his system to get more off-ball movement and things going to the basket. Said another way: this offense does not produce easy looks frequently enough. Last year we got 6-8 uncontested layups/dunks per game just on back cuts, and motion structure within the offense. That just isn't happening this year. Instead, multiple times per game, we are finding ourselves 28 feet from the basket with the shot clock at 8 or less. In the NBA, elite athletes, more freedom of movement, and frankly less defensive effort often allowed a good shot to still happen in that scenario.

I honestly think KY made some incorrect assumptions about spacing, skill level, freedom of movement (and maybe defensive intensity) He's incredibly smart and will modify, but we're seeing the growing pains of the NBA-centric system being layered onto the college game.
