If you want to clearly prove you are best, schedule a lot of non-conference games against what you are calling the fake conferences and annihilate them on the field. Do it in the same season. But instead they want to do protective scheduling (few P4 games, rarely go on the road) and then just get the benefit of superiority based on assumptions.
Ole Miss plays only one P4 non-conference game a year. This year it was against Wake Forest who isn't even bowl eligible. So Ole Miss just plays 9 P4 games in pretty much every regular season. Occasionally they play a tough G5 team too.
