This is the answer. Once I decided that programs were crap, and my employer was
paying for tix, I always just bought the best ticket for time and connections.
It made my life so much easier than worrying about my miles. Sometimes I would even buy two one-way tix if it made my trip easier.

I think Delta still is better than any of the others. I’m Diamond and I get upgraded to first almost every flight.
