That was merging Vistara (the best of the Indian carriers because it was a partnership with Tata/Singapore Air) with Air India. From what I have heard is that they are currently updating their cabins and aircraft with new layouts, which is needed badly.
I should also clarify, flying Air India inside of India isn’t nearly as bad as flying them internationally. They took over a direct route from OHare to Delhi from American, which I used to take. Once that happened, I stopped flying that route. I’d rather have layovers than have to fly Air India.
Their business class might be a minor step up from economy and the food is about 10 steps lower than the mediocre food most carriers have…and I like Indian food.
I might force one of my India leadership to fly them internationally the next year to see if it has improved to see if I’m ready to try it again, but that’s the only way I’d give it a shot.
