The narrative I've heard my whole life isnt that they wont move away, its that

they'll move away, then get homesick, and want to quit jobs, switch schools, etc, in order to move back home.

I'm not from Utah, and have lived in just about every timezone, and I see it almost every year. Someone moves into the ward from Utah, stays for a few years, and then moves back home to Utah.
