Japan is called 日本 in modern Mandarin, romanized as Rìběn in pinyin. Not sure if
it was pronounced differently anciently, but more likely the early Portuguese or Dutch explorers just pronounced it poorly.
In Mandarin it kind of sounds like “urban”.
