Earlier in the year he was getting playing time but wasn’t looking so hot. Obviously the coaches were seeing him do well in practice because he kept getting time. Now he’s showing why in the games. Interestingly he’s one of the few guys that seems to be able to create a shot off the dribble. Hall passes well and gets to the rim relatively well but goes through stretches of missing bunnies and lay-ups. Fouss is fantastic but struggles with the handle when pestered down low, and can be ganged up on as a result. Egor is great but is a point guard; if you need someone to create, though, he can take a lot of guys off the dribble. Richie is obviously high energy and I’d say therefore opportunistic, but it’s not really dribbling or purely shooting skills that get him his points, it’s hustle. That’s good but opportunities are reduced against good teams. Keita is athletically elite but not a guy to pass to when you want them to create offense. I think Catchings will be a creator but is still learning to play in control. Knell, Ritchie, Catchings, Hall and Demin are all very good spot-up 3 point shooters. What all this leads me to believe is that better passing and chemistry could make this team elite, but my eyes tell me they’re not there yet. In the meantime, if you’re Kevin Young drawing up a play, who do you want to feed the ball to if you absolutely need someone to create a bucket when the threes aren’t falling? Egor’s on that list, then Dawson? I’m not saying he’s a world beater, and I think passing around until something opens for Fouss or a spot up shooter would be better, but of the skill sets on the team, when the three isn’t falling and the team chemistry just isn’t working, he may be a leader in creating.
