Not a dentist, but when I had a crown fall off and had a couple days before...
... I could get in, I went to the pharmacy and got dental wax and packed a glob of it over the nub where the crown would go.
It was a weird sensation (felt like I had some kind of soft food in my mouth so my tongue kept rubbing it) but kept it from being too sensitive for a couple days.
