If it's his first year, I'd recommend a head racquet like this one

It has a light frame that won't break at the high school level. Light frames are more forgiving for new players. Especially if the player is hitting with the wrong form. Less likely to injure himself with a light racquet. It's very easy to develop tennis elbow, strain a wrist, or hurt a shoulder if you hit with the wrong form.

If you don't have a friend who can string racquets, I'd recommend getting two.

Also, check grip size on your racquet. I have smaller hands and played with a racquet with a large grip. When I got a better racquet with the right grip size, it made a huge difference.
