It’s two parts because their scriptwriter was a talentless hack who couldn’t figure a way to move the movie beyond the
highs of the Defying Gravity number and finish out the rest of the story in an exciting and satisfying way. So he thought it would be easier to just call it quits there and pick up with the rest of the story with a completely fresh slate.
This is no joke either. It's the real reason they've given.
