Bigger challenge was that the offense fell out of rhythm for a long period of time due to the smothering defense of Ole Miss.
Not blaming the players or coaches, but Ole Miss was VERY physical with their guard play and I think it intimidated both Egor and Dallin. Watch the last part of the 1st half and 2nd half. There were multiple stretches of a couple minutes where BYU didn’t score. When Ole Miss got aggressive with their guard defensive play both Hall and Demin seemed to pick up their dribble really early in their half court set - pretty much as soon as the Ole Miss defender started pressing them. This made the game for BYU much more of a perimeter game for too long. Guards weren’t a drive threat, the pick and roll offense that had worked so well wasn’t being used, etc.
If guards get more used to aggressive defensive schemes this team will be just fine. Egor has such good vision that given more experience I think he’ll be able to pick apart teams when they overcommit defensively, but it will take some time for this young team to develop. Great potential.
