Check your math. Lavell faced 14 bowl opponents that finished ranked in the
Final AP poll.
It would have been 17 bowl opponents ranked in the final AP Poll, but the ranking didn't go to 25 until the early 1990's (1981 Washington State, 1988 Colorado etc would have finished in the top 25).
He also faced multiple top 10 teams and also had an opponent finish 21-25.
