I've always thought something similar
Right now, there's a lot of land that's uninhabitable (or that can't be farmed) because the climate is currently too cold. If this unlocks the Canadian tundra at the expense of the Sunbelt, isn't that a worthwhile trade? Especially if it takes place over several hundred years of incremental frog boiling? (Yes, I'm aware that frogs don't actually boil like that).
