If the offense has 2 TD drives in the first half, it mitigates the defensive
inefficiencies.
ASU and OSU games the D didn't do enough to win. The O helped out against OSU but flamed out against ASU.
The defense carried the team against SMU, Utah, and Kansas. O did barely enough against SMU & Utah to win and stunk out loud against Kansas.
