This take is a little short-sighted..
Even when reading the terms, it’s not straightforward for many to understand. If it were that simple, this wouldn’t happen to people.

That’s the problem. It’s not simple at all. And no other industry on planet earth is as opaque and easily misunderstood as the insurance business. Huge power differential in a bad way with this business. Customer has little no bargaining power, can’t vote with his feet, and truly, truly has no idea what the cost for a service will actually be.

I have spent hours calling different departments over the years (front office, accounting, billing, etc) and have never been able to get straight forward answers from the medical side. Calling the insurance side is even more of a black box.

I get your sentiment that we should read before we do something as simple as going to a yearly eye exam that ostensibly looks pretty straightforward. Sadly, it’s not at all.
