the most powerful forces in the market do not prioritize expressing truth.
The theory behind the marketplace of ideas is premised on the idea that the populace is seeking truth. If truth is the most desired end product of the market, then the marketplace of ideas will always produce truth.
If truth is not prioritized, the marketplace of ideas becomes an inefficient and ineffective filter of truth, and free speech can become more detrimental to truth and progress than a benefit.
I know, having read a lot about him and listened to his interviews, that Musk claims to prioritize truth as much as he prioritizes free speech. However, I do not think his history of tweets is consistent with truth as a priority. Maybe he just can't control his impulses (something else he has admitted to). That may help excuse his intentions, but it does not do much to excuse the results.
I don't hear him promoting truth enough on X. He should do more of it, but I think he knows it would be bad for business.
