Sometimes it's better to take the delay penalty than burn a time out.
Like a 3rd and 10 early in the half.
It's frustrating when we take a time out on a down like that and end up punting anyway.

We sent them out there with like 30+ seconds on the clock and ran it all the way

I think the longest one they got us on was about 22 seconds, which they drew

Just do what the NFL does. I never see the slow sub issue in the NFL.

Limit it to 10 seconds from the time the offensive players are subbed. Done.

Or let the offense snap at 5 seconds or less, regardless

That would just encourage late subbing and defeat the purpose of the rule

No specific limit. It's kind of discretionary on the ref.

Which is incredibly dumb

I have never seen delay of game called for the slow substituting before

You haven't? Happens all the time. Most call a timeout to avoid it. We didn't

He was talking about delay of game on the defense for taking too long to sub

I actually started thinking more about us not snapping before 10 seconds.

I wonder how much time they would have had after the ensuing kickoff,

This is exactly why we need save TOs. You can’t have a half or game end on

Utah was calling time outs to preserve time, not thinking about running time out

I bet if they could run all the time out with no field goal attempt like OP said

I wondered if we had waited longer to snap the ball if they would have tried to

I would guess that they tried - if they succeeded it would have ended the game
