Look, if any of us were given an opportunity to coach, play, etc. any where and
at any level, with the amount of preparation and effort you put into something will result in you wanting that outcome. You may not have the disdain for the other team that some have, but trust me, the level of competitiveness we all have let alone what a coach at the collegiate level must have will inevitably want the outcome you’ve been working to achieve. There aren’t these soft feelings of, oh I used to work there….” Or “oh, I used to play there….” …..So I wouldn’t mind if they beat us,” going through their heads. These guys want to win. If they were to switch teams in the offseason (aka Burgess) then who they want to win will switch too. This would be true of coaches or players on both sides.
Look, this even holds true if you or I were playing in a Turkey Bowl and we switched what team we were on mid way through the game—and that’s with no preparation and no meaningful reward for winning either.
