approached him for an interview after the game and he then said those things. Maybe he only gets a $15k fine for it and it is not national news.
The big problem for me is that:
1. He walked onto the playing field DURING A LIVE PLAY to berate an official. This is the AD, not a coach or player doing this.
2. He accosted at least one official on the field right after the game
3. He then INSERTS HIMSELF into the post-game press conference and, in a very condescending way, goes on his rant. It felt like he was trying to reassure everyone there that, don't worry, he is in charge and will make things right after this obvious injustice - as if he were the boss of the Big12 and Yormark would yield to him.
It just came off as arrogant and lacking self-awareness.
edit: And he gave as his excuse for the rant that he had just been in the locker room “… where our student-athletes were hurting and upset. …” An excuse. A justification even. And what about points 1 and 2 above?
In its reprimand, the Big 12 made it clear that Harlan was being reprimanded "...for [1] his actions at the conclusion of the game against BYU and [2] his comments following the game." He addressed his comments, albeit as an excuse, but what about his actions which are separately identified by the league?
