As stated, Max Hall turned in a couple lackluster performances mixed in with another where he utterly fell apart. Remember the “I intercepted Max Hall“ T-shirts?
Taysom got stymied. John Beck was not amazing most of the time against Utah until he absolutely was at the very very end. Zach never beat them. Only Jaren Hall in the modern era really stepped up with a great performance in his first and only shot at the Utes.
Jake was handicapped by a pass rush that was in his face all the time. Utah guys just simply beating our blockers. He was further hamstrung by our absurd substitutions, which constantly put him late in the clock. Facing all that, it’s true that he did not play great at all in stretches. Except with his back against the wall, he played well enough to deliver a classic win.
This game for the offense is a lot like the Oklahoma State game for the defense. I’m sure they know better than any of us what just happened to them on the field and will come back motivated to be better.
That has been the MO for Retzlaff. I fully expect this game is going to make him a lot better and more capable of handling duress.
