Two things I will be watching for tonight: (1) Spain P&R and (2) Peel & Switch
KY loves the Spain pick and roll. He designed the #1 offense in the NBA (measured by Offensive Efficiency Rating) incorporating heavy use of this action.

BYU tried to run it a couple times in the first half Tuesday night... and botched it pretty badly. Here's how it's supposed to work:

Again, KY absolutely LOVES the Spain P&R due to the insane number of options it opens up for your deadliest scoring weapons on the floor. Puts shooters where they can do the most damage, opens lanes for your drivers, and puts your scorers in space to operate and wreak havoc on confused defenders.

He mentioned in an interview about a month ago how he was surprised the players weren't picking up the offense as fast as he expected. Big difference in BBIQ from the NBA to recent HS grads it turns out. There was a greater need to focus on teaching basic fundamentals to our players than he anticipated.

Safe to assume the coaches will roll out more of the offense once the guys get more confident with the stuff they're trying to implement now.

Anyway, they tried the Spain P&R a few times and it looked really clunky. I'll be watching for it tonight to see what progress they've made in tightening up the execution.

Defensively, I'll be watching for the peel & switch. They seem to be a little further ahead in picking up the new defense.

Line upon line, precept on precept... GO COUGS!!
