He was destined to fail under the Ludwig system, and now with Whitt likely leaving and Ludwig already in the unemployment line, he and BYU could be a great match. I like the idea of bringing in a kid with that much talent, who has been humbled by what he has experienced, and would come in ready to learn. I have no doubt that our previous O Line and Tight End coaching situation affected his decision making, as did his Dad’s history at the U. With BYU bringing in some great O line recruits, 2 just this past week, I believe it is a totally different BYU team to him.
He would have to come in and beat out some really good young talent, like Lugo, Watson, Hillstead, and others, but I think he has that in him. His shoulder was definitely still affected by that surgery he had. Having gone through 2 rotator cuff surgeries, I know how long it takes to not only rehab, but gain strength and confidence. There is not reason that he should have been playing this season, ahead of Rose. He could have done more damage and do what he did, when forced into the starting role early. His own brother had a rough start at BYU, but look at the way it played out for him.
