The Mission President would have a Zone Leader conference every month. After that Zone Leader conference, all of us would go to Bank of America and withdraw all of the cash for our zone. So if you're imagining this - we're talking about all of the money for every missionary in the mission being withdrawn from the bank on the same day at the same time and then a bunch of random pairs of dudes leaving the bank and scattering across the city to a variety of buses that would take us around the country.
There were armed guards at the door of the bank with automatic weapons, so I never felt unsafe at the bank or leaving the bank. But when I was headed to the bus terminal for a 5 hour bus ride back to my zone/area with a big wad of cash in the bag I was carrying - that always had me a little nervous.
On month me and my comp thought it would be funny to take a photo of each of us sitting on our bed in the middle of a pile of cash - the monthly stipend for all of the missionaries in our zone. Getting those photos developed was probably not the smartest thing we ever did. Lucky someone at the photo place didn't tip off their crook cousin to follow us home.
