This won't give a durable advantage. Basketball is still hard to get right. Other schools will shell out for other stars. Donors will be in a position where they are paying 1/4 of an NBA roster's salaries and all they receive in return will be the satisfaction of finishing in the middle of the pack in some college league that has become just a lousy pro league and has only a tenuous connection to college. We will have special seasons with the same frequency as before.

I still hope we get him and pay him. I just think that once the market stabilizes, we will be back where we were. We won't be able to buy our way to a better team. Just having a team will cost a lot.
