His brother Jaden was on the 2007 team that did play at the Rose Bowl Stadium
in Pasadena. Maybe he went there to watch him play, and it confused him to think that he actually played in that stadium at some point.
What a strange story to make up. The 2006 season was a great BYU season, and the 2006 Las Vegas Bowl against Oregon was one of our better bowl victories. Why not just tell those stories instead of making up some weird story about the Rose Bowl.
If he wanted a story about a cool traditional stadium, he could have talked about BYU's game in South Bend in 2005. That game sucked for BYU, but at least it was an experience against a storied program in a storied stadium.
