and we shouldn't have to defend Kalani, but the Fire Kalani crowd are just waiting for the first loss or any other item to fire up the pitchforks and firestorm.

Funk was hired when BYU allowed a much more limited budget for assistant coaches. He fired him when the AD allowed him and hired a better coach. I suspect as long as the funds are there, Kalani won't hold on as long again and I suspect he will be able to hire better coaches.

Kalani's shortcomings have been loyalty, a la Lavell, and budget. He hasn't had a mammoth budget to attract the right coaches but the increase in budget should alleviate those problems.

Kalani understands the culture and the goals of BYU. He just needs a good budget AND he needs to demand more from his coaches from time to time.
