The D's struggles weren't just vs. Oklahoma State
While the D got the very timely pick vs. Baylor, we were all very relieved when that happened. We didn't know it at the time, but it was a preview of Oklahoma State: Baylor was about to go ahead with very little time remaining. Luckily, though, bullet dodged.

Arizona gashed between the twenties converting 3rd down after 3rd down (it got to the point I thought fans standing and yelling on 3rd down in the stadium was somehow helping Arizona convert!), but the D held solid in the red zone (including a fantastic pick at the 1 and a pick 6 in garbage time). Again heroics helped quite a bit, but it turns out Arizona has problems in the red zone against everyone--it's not just us.

People remember what happened last week. A great RB who'd under performed all year came alive against our D. And so did a theoretically immobile QB. Maybe it was (over) confidence being at home playing at night.

Maybe this is 2023 PTSD talking. Or maybe it's some superstitious thought that if *I* overlook an opponent karma will require that I suffer and BYU lose. I think Jay Hill can fix these issues, but I also think BigXII coaches are smart enough to identify tendencies like over aggressiveness / hero ball / not being assignment sound and teasing them out and exploiting them. Even the guest host on BYUSN yesterday said we have to play assignment sound but still not lose aggressiveness. Fine line, that.

Here's hoping the D can fix its issues and absolutely destroy the Knights to keep the winning streak alive. I'm doing my part in trying to convince us all to not be overconfident. 🙂
