He just shared some info that seems relevant. I didn’t know that was Malzahn back in 07
Tulsa had that game circled by their own admission. They’d plotted all off season. They bragged about their stratagems at a HS coaching clinic attended by my brother after it was all said and done. They had trick plays designed specifically for us. They even trotted out a participant on one such play out in a different jersey during pregame.
It worked. A good BYU D got boat-raced that day.
This time, Malzahn is coming off a big game and has no reason to have circled BYU on the calendar. What he will have seen is a porous run D that probably has had him licking his chops. He’ll likely guess right on adjustments we’ll make and have some new looks with a couple great runners to counter. Play big boy football with a big boy ranking attached to you, and you run into big boy coaches and game plans.
UCF will encounter what I hope will be a determined, salty, BYU D after they just got ground out for 8 minutes at home in what might have easily been a game losing TD drive.
Make UCF one-dimensional on O, take care of the ball, win the special teams battle, and we’re 8-0. Here’s hoping that happens, but it’s far from a gimme.
