When I lived in Vegas I met an oddsmaker for one of the sport book companies
He was a financial statistician by trade that had lost his license and ended up using his mathematical modeling skills in the sports betting industry and he claimed that BYU was one of the schools that he had identified as a team that outperformed against the spread over other college teams and he thought maybe the no gambling by the church contributed to that but it wasn’t a big factor as I recall, like maybe 1-2% better than the average.
This was 25 years ago though and with the proliferation of sports betting expansion I don’t know if that is still true.
Lots of non-emotional betting happening these days.
