Such an annoying excuse often times masked as a question. I’m sure he’s had to answer it 468 times in his career so maybe a little annoyance coming out.
Based on the the lack of follow-up from the interviewer, maybe he sensed this, or it just didn’t get answered in the way he thought so he moved on quickly.
