I just did my 3 car garage floor. Concrete was 25 years old. I did the following
Bought the Rustoleum EpoxyShield stuff at Home Depot (it is water-based product but worked fine)
I used a degreaser and scrubbed dirty areas and power washed it.
I filled in the divots in concrete and any cracks with a concrete filler and putty knife then sanded it down to make it even
I used the etching compound material that comes with the kit once I was ready to put the epoxy down.
I taped off the sides where I didn't want the epoxy getting on anything.
I then followed instructions.
Note the flakes that come with the kit may not be exactly what you want so I went to Sherwin Williams which has a big variety of flakes and we found some we really liked and they only charged $4 per pound (compared to lowes or home depot that charges $18 per pound)
It went smoother than I thought and turned out great. You can do it as a DIY.
I put a clear coat down a few days later from Rustoleum and it looks good.

Total cost was $1.30 per sq ft. If you don't go with a clear coat after, the cost will be about $1 per sq foot.
