We're building a house and it's one of the most stressful things I've ever done. Today the base coat of stucco was applied.
I was out doing various tasks when one of the workers asked about some goats and chickens we have at the property. We had a funny conversation about grilling goats and how to make old hens taste good. Then tonight a friend called my wife to see if we might be interested in her grown roosters that have been raised alongside her young hens. I said I wasn't interested, but I knew who would be.
I brought a box of 5 roosters to the workers that had stayed late, taking pride in their work and making sure that our house would look great. They were definitely excited when I dropped off a box of poultry. My son helped me deliver the roosters, so I taught him that he can spread joy by learning what matters to specific people and providing the kindness that will mean most to them. Tonight I feel joy at seeing my home progress, and I hope those workers go home a little extra happy as well.
