2017 was the first time that the conference had a championship game but no divisions.

The 2019 season featured 8-1 Baylor vs 8-1 Oklahoma in the championship game but no other team was better than 5-4.

This season will be different as there are 16 teams instead of 10-12 like in the past but historically speaking Big 12 teams with two or fewer conference losses have an excellent shot of making the title game (14 of 16 since 2017).
